William Steel
From a young age, William was captivated by the wildlife that surrounded him. Raised in Botswana, he was able to explore and discover the beauty of the untamed wilderness, which sparked in him a love for nature. His early fascination with birdlife is where his photographic journey began. As a hobby blossomed into a passion and then a career, he began to turn his focus to storytelling. William believes that great photography is a combination of beauty and intrigue, and he has always tried to focus on these aspects regardless of the subject he is photographing.
After finishing an MBA in the UK, William decided that corporate life was not for him, and he moved back to Botswana. His extensive knowledge of the country secured him a job in the film industry, working on projects for industry giants such as the BBC and National Geographic. After a few years spent living out of filming vehicles, William realised that his real passion lay in sharing his love for photography, wildlife, and travel and began leading photographic tours internationally. Williams’ unique style and pursuit to create beauty in even the most common of species has resulted in numerous local and international publications as well as awards in world-renowned competitions. In 2017, William became a Sigma Ambassador for South Africa, and in 2021, he became an international ambassador for F-stop gear.
