The Last Word – Franschoek | Pangolin Photo Safaris Partner
Everything about The Last Word family-owned brand oozes charm and generous hospitality. The Last Word Franschhoek enjoys pride of place on Huguenot Street, the Cape Winelands’ answer to the South of France.
Franschhoek is our preferred region of all the wine producing terroirs in the Cape. Steeped in history and natural beauty this picturesque town has also gained a reputation as South African’s unofficial culinary capital. The name Franschhoek means ‘French Corner’ in reference to the French Huguenot settlers who fled France and the persecution of their Protestant faith in the 17th century.
Hospitality
Today, it is also home to some of the world’s most notable chefs, likely due to the influence of its historic Provencal residents. Each of the 10 spacious rooms are beautifully appointed with thoughtful touches throughout. Breakfast is a hearty affair and is made to your liking and will fortify you for a day of serious exploring and wine tasting. Tuck in to delicious mini-bar snacks and drinks, compliments of The Last Word Franschhoek from the privacy of your room or suite before venturing out to one of the many noteworthy restaurants to be found in town just a short stroll down Hugenot Street.
Take your pick – from pub grub, bistro fare to haute cuisine gastronomy. Shopping in the quaint village is a treat. There are loads of boutiques selling artisanal nibbles, handmade curios, art and of course, wine.
A novel way of exploring some of the surrounding vineyards is by the Wine Tram service that runs for several kilometres allowing you to hop on and off at each tasting venue!
