Always an avid traveller, the continent of Africa and its wildlife captivated James Gifford from an early age, beckoning repeatedly until it could eventually be called home. Living in Botswana for the last 15 years has given him a unique insight into wildlife behaviour, enabling him to become a multiple award-winning photographer, writer, and cinematographer with two published books to his name.

His competition accolades include winning Nature’s Best Photography Africa’s Wildlife Photograph of the Year and the BigPicture Photo Contest’s Human/Wildlife category. In addition, he has won the Oasis Photocontest magazine award, has been commended in the Sony World Photography Awards, and was a finalist in Africa Geographic’s Photographer of the Year.

His photographs have been exhibited in galleries and museums across the world, and his images and articles have been featured in numerous international publications. The clients for his film projects range from luxury safari companies to local and international charities and wildlife research projects.

A desire to pass on his knowledge has manifested itself in a variety of additional ventures, including teaching photography to local children and training local safari guides. He also runs specialist photographic safaris across Africa, catering to keen photographers of all skill levels.

Throughout every aspect and genre of his work, his overriding aim is to influence the way we think about the world and help conserve the wildlife that remains on our planet.
